Maryam Nawaz meets Khaqan Abbasi amid 'resignation debate'

With her elevation to a top party rank well debated, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz on Thursday said she will meet Shahid Khaqan Abbasi after he resigned from the party office following his elevation Mariam.

The former prime minister resigned from the party post on January 3, saying it is not appropriate for him to share the same party rank with Maryam.

"Abbasi is our senior. He is a long-time adviser to [PML-N supremo] Nawaz Sharif and my elder brother. I'll move forward under the leadership of party seniors," Maryam told a press conference in Bahawalpur after chairing a party meeting

Maryam, who is also the chief organizer of the party, said she would call Abbasi and both would share their views on the party's affairs.

She mocked opponents for "being happy", saying their happiness would be short-lived as Abbasi was "a man of loyalty and principle".
